HelloFresh or Hello, Financial Devastation?

A broke millennial tries meal kit service so you don’t have to

We’ve all been there – listening to our favourite podcast on the daily commute to work, when suddenly, the ominous sounds of true crime stop and give way to an advertisement. I don’t know if this is just the podcasts I listen to (any Morbid fans out there?), but I swear I hear ads for HelloFresh at least twice per episode. And I admit, hearing about the delicious hoisin honey chicken so often got me hungry… and maybe a little curious.

With the last of my monthly paycheck and a handy-dandy coupon code for 65% off, I figured why not take a crack at ordering a meal kit?

The first thing I noticed was that you don’t get to find out the weekly price and how much 65% off amounts to until you’ve entered your credit card information and basically signed up. At that point, you aren’t charged for anything, but jeez, if I’ve just spent 25 minutes creating an account with all of my weird little food preferences, I’m probably going to follow through, right? Why didn’t I just look the price up online and hear from previous customers, you ask? Well, I didn’t think of that. Please don’t judge my insane lack of internet savvy too harshly.
